Approximately 80% of alveolar rhabdomyosarcomas are associated with recurrent chromosomal translocations, including t(2;13) (60%) and less commonly, t(1;13) (20%), which result in fusion of the PAX3 and PAX7 genes, respectively, to the FOXO1A gene located at 13q14 (previously designated FKHR, or forkhead in rhabdomyosarcoma).
